Starting to write your first blog post can be a bit daunting. You might be confused about the topic or anxious about the end result. Don't worry as feeling this way is pretty normal. Luckily, you can get past these fears quite easily.
I have been writing technical articles since the last year and the process is very rewarding! I have prepared some tips that can help you kick-start your blogging journey.
Tips to get started with writing blog posts
🔹Think of a topic you already know about
The easiest way to start writing is to think of something you do every day. For example, you can write about how you organize your email inbox. If you write about something you already know, you don't need to do prior research and focus solely on writing.
🔹Don’t worry if someone has already written on that topic
You might wonder why should I write something that has already been written about. It is true that most of the topics you choose to write already exist on the internet somewhere. Remember, you have your own style so embrace it. Every person has a unique writing style that connects with the audience differently.
🔹Don't worry if English is not your native language
It is totally fine if English is not your mother language. What matters is that you are taking the initiative to write(and very few people do). Tools like Grammarly can help you fix typos and grammatical errors. You can also request a friend to proofread. In some cases, the editorial team might review your post and fix the errors if they find them.
🔹What should be the blog length?
Blog length varies from topic to topic and is very subjective. There is no "fixed" length that says that this is the ideal length. What matters the most is the clarity with which you craft your article. You can also improve clarity by adding diagrams.
🔹Accept feedback
If you get any constructive feedback, be open to receiving it and be ready to improve.
🔹Treat trolls the way they deserve
Sometimes, you just need to shut down the noise that hampers your productivity. The block button exists for a reason. Don't be shy if you feel the need to use it. Plus if you are encountering trolls, it means you are also getting famous lol 👀.
🔹Conclusion
Don't spend too much time thinking about how your blog would look or how others would respond to it. Your best work is always a "work in progress". You can always make changes to your posts later in time. So roll up your sleeves and start writing! 🚀
